Actually, most of said delegates signed it a month after the Second Continental Congress approved the resolution of independence, that is, on 2 August 1776.

However, Americans all over the world celebrate Independence Day on the 4th of July because this is the day that it was made known to the world that the American nation has severed its colonial ties of sovereignty with the United Kingdom. And thus was born the 4th July decorations.
